General Appearance: The American Bulldog is a large and powerful dog. They have a broad box-shaped head and a deep chest. They are a heavily muscled breed with a coat that is short, hard and shiny.

Size, Proportion, and Substance: Height - Males stand 22 to 28 inches at the shoulder, females 17 to 26 inches. Weight - Males 90 - 135 pounds, females 70 - 115 pounds.

Background: A high spirited and extremely athletic breed. Originally developed as a guard dog, the American Bulldog is sweet tempered and makes a loyal and loving family companion. They are known to have an exceptional fondness for children, becoming silly and clownish in their presence. They crave attention and do well with training but they need a firm owner as they tend to be a bit stubborn. A well-raised American Bulldog's main purpose in life is to please his master.
