General Appearance: Powerful, with thin, loose skin, especially around the head and neck, where it hangs in loose folds. Possessing a wise and noble expression.
Size, Proportion, and Substance: Height-males, 25 to 27 inches at the withers, females, 23 to 25 inches; for both the greater height is preferred. Weight-males, 90 to 110 lbs preferred; females 80 to 100 lbs preferred. Background: Bloodhounds are one of the kindest and gentlest of all dogs. With a calm demeanor, Bloodhounds are fine family pets. Quiet indoors, but quite vocal outdoors the Bloodhound is a tracker's dream. Whether following the scent of game for a hunter, an escaped criminal for the police or little Jimmy for Mom and Dad, this is what Bloodhounds do best. Bloodhounds are excellent scent trackers and can follow a trail over a hundred miles to find someone or something, and even follow a scent through a crowd or through water. Eager to please, Bloodhounds are excitable while on the hunt, but quiet and dignified on the sofa. |
