General Appearance: Powerful and sturdy, of Arctic type, elegant, dignified, with a scowling expression and straight legged walk. Comes in rough (long) and smooth (short) coats, both require brushing twice a week.

Size, Proportion, and Substance: Height-17 to 20 inches, at the withers.

Background: Dignified and aloof, the Chow is not demonstrative in his affection. Chows tend to bond to one person, to whom they are loyal. Chow pups should begin socialization at an early age, with exposure to people and animals alike. Their thick coat requires frequent bathing and brushing.
